If you only get eighteen years together, make them count

 I once came across an essay by writer Tim Urban called The Tail End. In it, he charts how much in-person time parents typically spend with their children before adulthood — and the graph is shocking. By the time your child leaves home, you’ve already shared around ninety percent of all the time you’ll ever have together.

I didn’t want that to be the whole story. I wanted to stretch those years — not through grand gestures, but through meaningful journeys that teach.
